Sticking to Those New Year’s Resolutions

What is it about a new year that gets us so excited? Is it the coming together of friends and family to celebrate accomplishments? Is it the idea of getting a fresh start? Whatever the reasoning, the new year is representative of many things for people. One of the most common being a time to make changes in your life - a time for resolutions.

So why is it so easy to make a resolution, yet so difficult to stick to one? I’m sure we’ve all heard the phrase, “easier said than done.” In an effort to help our fellow resolution makers, we’ve highlighted the top five ways from the Forbes Coaches Council to help you stick to your New Year’s Resolutions.

  1. Take Daily Action - When you prioritize and schedule your goals, it can make it easier for you to achieve them.
  2. Start Small - Breaking a large goal into smaller, more manageable pieces can help you stay more focused and be able to accomplish more.
  3. Tell As Many People As You Can - Resolutions that you keep to yourself become “optional” because no one can hold you accountable.
  4. Don’t Call It A New-Year Resolution - The pressure of starting your resolution at the New Year can be daunting. Instead, try starting at another date when you’re more prepared.
  5. Set Realistic Goals - When a goal becomes more manageable, the process becomes more enjoyable for us.

Check out the remaining nine ways you can maintain your resolutions here.
